In February, 1991, I took a leave of absence from my highly coveted job as Creative Director at Baltimore’s Inphomation Inc to volunteer my services to the State of Israel as Iraq’s Saddam Hussein reined scud missiles down upon and threatened to invade that beleaguered country.
I paid my own way and spent the remainder of the First Gulf War working on a tiny kibbutz in Israel’s Negev Desert as missiles landed all about us and we were forced to don gas masks and huddle in hastily sealed rooms.
Why did I do it?
Because I am a Christian. And my Methodist minister father had taught me from the time of my birth that we are to love Israel, often quoting Genesis 12:3: “'I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.'”
Now, Israel is again under siege. At home and abroad.
At home, the Hamas terrorist organization is fighting Israel street by street and tunnel by tunnel in order to preserve its army of depraved savages for renewed, ruthless assaults upon innocent Israeli civilians, as it attempts to wipe that nation off the face of the earth.
And abroad, misguided (to put it kindly) politicians, led by the supine likes of Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer, are demanding that Israel cease defending itself against Hamas, that it allow the terrorist organization to survive and prosper – and that it even permit it to establish a Palestinian terrorist state on Israeli soil…
A state that would reward the Hamas monsters for their savage, sickening – not just inhumane, but inhuman -- attack of October 7, the depravity of which we have not witnessed in modern history. Not even in the recorded annals of Nazi atrocities.
If you doubt that, I urge you to read the passage below, taken from the letter which follows thereafter:
For hours, thousands of happy, blood-drunk beasts raped women, children and men, shooting their victims in the crotch and heads, cutting off the women's breasts and playing football with them, cutting off the babies from the wombs of pregnant women and immediately decapitating them, tying up and burning the small children. There were so many charred bodies that, for many weeks, forensic pathologists could not cope with the enormous workload of identifying individuals.
Now, the President of the United States and the Majority Leader of the United States Senate are demanding that Israel not only cease defending itself against such monsters – but even to go so far as to reward them with their own terrorist state.
It’s as if the heads of the allied countries in World War II had ordered Patton not to cross the Rhine in March of 1945, but to lay down his arms – and had then rewarded Hitler with a Fourth Reich.
The reaction of so many world “leaders” today to Israel’s attempt to avenge the terrorist invasion of October 7 and to defend its very survival – while simultaneously undertaking the greatest humanitarian effort in combat history to protect innocent civilians – makes one wonder how the Hamas apologists would have preferred for Israel to have responded.
Should the Israelis have merely bowed their heads, shrugged their shoulders and meekly lamented, “Oh, it’s okay. After all, we’re only Jews”?
Would any other nation be called upon to respond with such an obsequious display of object cowardice?
Did America respond thusly after Pearl Harbor. Or after 9/11?
