President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed into law the GOP-led Laken Riley Act, crafted to crack down on illegal migrants who have committed crimes.
It was drafted after the February 2024 murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley by an illegal migrant who had previously been arrested in connection with shoplifting.
The Laken Riley Act is the first legislation Trump has signed into law since taking office Jan. 20.
Trump signed the measure in a White House event in which he reviewed his first 10 days in office, including reiterating that has ordered all federal employees back to their offices by Feb. 6.
