Wise Men Still Seek Him
“Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.” – Matthew 2:2
In the timeless story of the birth of Christ, we are told that Wise Men came from afar following a star so that they might honor and worship the new-born king.
Significantly, the celestial sign appeared to them in the dark of night. It shone round about them out of an opaque sky, guiding them not only to the Savior, but away from danger. And let us not forget that the danger they faced derived from a malevolent government intent upon deceiving them and destroying the object of their adoration.
T. Michael Davis, a brilliant Christian apologist, authored an article in the Christian Research Journal in 2007 that lends new perspective to the Star of Bethlehem. And it speaks directly to where we in America are today as we celebrate Christmas 2023 in what many of us see as a deepening veil of darkness.
"My fundamental premise,” Davis wrote, is this: The star was an opening in the supernatural, other-dimensional boundary that separates heaven and earth; it was a tear in the fabric of heaven. God made an opening so that the light of heaven shone on the earth. This was, I believe, the Star of Bethlehem, and it was a heavenly light that guided the magi.”
My good friend, the CRPAC Patriot and outstanding editor Charlotte Tweed has reminded me, “This proposal of an opening of heaven is consistent with other biblical accounts. When Jesus was baptized, heaven was opened. In Acts 9:3, when Saul met Jesus on the road to Damascus, “suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him”. On special occasions, God has opened heaven and sent light from heaven to earth.
Today, as we celebrate the birth of Christ anew, we need now more than ever for God to once again open the heavens and send His guiding light to us. At times, it seems that we are beset as never before from every angle by “wars and rumors of wars… by famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places… and by the hatred of all nations for [His] name's sake.”
And, yes, by a malevolent government intent upon the deceiving us and destroying the object of our adoration, both in the heavens and here on earth. Both the God of our Fathers and the land we love.
But, the good news is that the same celestial light that guided the wise men guides us still today. Just as it did in the days of the magi, it provides what Davis depicted as “an opening in the supernatural, other-dimensional boundary that separates heaven and earth…a tear in the fabric of heaven… so that the light of heaven shines on the earth.”
And as that “light of heaven” shines down upon us during this blessed Christmas season, let us rejoice anew in the Good News as proclaimed by the Prophet Isaiah that “Unto us a savior is born, unto us a Son is given. His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
And best of all, even in these times of trouble, His light will pierce the darkness, and, yes, “The government shall rest upon His shoulders.”
Which is why, even today, Wise Men still seek Him.
