Trump believes he'll be convicted in Jan. 6 case but still thinks he can win White House: Report

Former President Donald Trump believes there is a real likelihood he could be convicted later this spring for his actions during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Trump is reportedly preparing for the possibility of a conviction if the case does come to trial before the election, according to Axios. The case was scheduled for March 4, one day ahead of Super Tuesday, but the Washington Post reported the trial has disappeared from the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia’s public calendar.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan is presiding over the Jan. 6 trial and has a reputation for giving relatively longer and harsher sentences to those involved in the Capitol riot.

Even if the case is pushed back, Trump’s other legal troubles keep such a concern alive. His team is reportedly worried that even if it emerges lucky and the Jan. 6 case is delayed, Trump could still be found guilty of charges related to alleged hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. A trial in the case is scheduled for March 25, which would be just weeks following Super Tuesday and still lies ahead of the Republican National Committee convention.
