Rich Consultants Will Not Save This Majority. We Have To!

Twenty-six days before Americans finish voting, the two men charged with holding the Republican congressional majority were in the Balkans.

Not Iowa. Not Ohio. Not Texas, where our nominee is inside the margin. The Balkans, advising a Russia-friendly government's reelection campaign.

Chris LaCivita and James Blair were widely credited with the 2024 victory. They were handed the job of defending the House and Senate this fall. According to Politico's reporting, the President did not know about the trip until it surfaced publicly, and then distanced himself from both men, describing them as outside consultants who do not work for him.

Months ago he had called Blair one of the brightest political minds in the country.

What the operatives are saying about their own work.

Set aside the palace intrigue. The quotes from inside the operation are the actual story, and conservatives should read them carefully.

A Republican consultant working for MAGA Inc. told Politico the travel did not disrupt anything, because most of the work happens over the phone anyway. He described being summoned to a two-hour Saturday morning conference call about polling. He added that he did not know the principals were out of the country until he read it in the New York Times.

Then there is this, from a GOP operative in a key midterm state, speaking about the advertising that tens of millions of dollars are funding right now.

The MAGA Inc. ads are not going to save us anyway. The ads are going to suck.

That is not a critic of the President saying that. That is a Republican in a battleground state, on our side, describing the product being purchased on our behalf with money raised from people like you.

This is the part we have been writing about all year.

We have documented the pattern since August and we are not going to soften it now.

The Senate adjourned without passing the SAVE America Act. Leadership brought it to the floor in March, declined to force a talking filibuster, and never brought it back. The September work period produced two district judges, a college sports bill, and a twenty-four second pro forma session. The House cancelled its final two weeks. Both chambers took the entire month of October off.

And the professional class responsible for the campaign apparatus spent part of the stretch run working another contract overseas.

None of that is a reason for conservatives to despair. All of it is a reason to stop waiting.

Here is what is actually true about this election.

The structural position is not hopeless. Twenty-three of the thirty-five Senate seats on the ballot sit in states President Trump carried in 2024. Republicans are outspending Democrats down the stretch in several battlegrounds, including an additional twenty million dollars in Iowa from grassroots conservatives.

Trafalgar, the firm built specifically to find Republican voters other pollsters miss, has Texas at Talarico 46.4 to Paxton 45.2. Iowa at Hinson 44.0 to Turek 42.1.

Both inside the margin. In both races, the Libertarian candidate is polling larger than the gap.

Those are not persuasion deficits that require a brilliant consultant and a clever advertisement. Those are contact problems. Ballot return problems. Protest votes from people who agree with us on nearly everything.

A consultant in the Balkans cannot fix that. Neither can a bad television ad.

A neighbor can.

What actually moves a race this close.

Ballots are already out in twenty states, including Texas, Michigan and North Carolina. Early in-person voting is open in roughly a dozen more.

If you have a ballot sitting on your counter, fill it out tonight. Follow the signature and identification instructions exactly, because ballots get rejected over envelope defects and curing requires you to notice before a deadline you may not know.

Then find three conservatives in your life who vote irregularly and make them your personal project between now and November 3. Not persuasion. Logistics. Do they know their deadline. Do they know where to drop it. Do they need a ride.

That is unglamorous work. Nobody gets quoted in Playbook for it. It is also the only thing that reliably moves a race decided by one point.

The lesson worth keeping after this cycle.

The consulting class will be fine regardless of what happens on November 3. They were fine before 2024 and they will be fine after 2026. Contracts get signed either way, here or somewhere else.

The people who are not fine either way are the ones who actually believe this stuff. The people who gave twenty-five dollars, knocked the doors, made the calls, and expected the SAVE America Act to get a vote because they were told it would.

Twenty-six days.

Washington has had its chance to prove it would fight for this majority. The record is public and anyone can check it.

The rest is up to us, and it always was.
