Two Roads Diverged in a Woods

Many years ago, when I was yet in my mid-teens, my friend Winky Dink and I decided to drive his 1956 Chevy Bel Air from the inner-city confines in which we lived way out Falls Road into the then densely wooded Baltimore County countryside, thereby to explore and exploit our innate pioneering instincts.

We did so for several hours on end, until dusk descended and I sagely suggested we turn back and head for home. At which point, we found to our dismay that we had lost our way. Totally. Miserably. Frightfully.

“Now what in the hell are we going to do, Winky,” I implored.

To which he replied, “Walk faster.”

Now, I may not have been the brightest kid on the block. But, somehow, even in my discombobulated state, I sensed that walking faster when you have no idea where you are going is not an altogether reasonable approach to finding your way out of the woods.

A reasonable assumption, I believe you will agree – unless you are a leading light of the Democrat Party. A Party in which, the Holy Bible notwithstanding, the light most decidedly does not comprehend the darkness.

Lest you have any remaining doubt about the inability of the Democrat Party leadership to learn from its past mistakes, my I humbly suggest you take just a few minutes to review the Senate committee confirmation hearings into the nominations of Robert F. Kennedy, Kash Patel, and the Honorable (except to the Senate Dems) Tulsi Gabbard.

Do so, I hasten to add, and you will be fully confirmed in what is increasingly the overwhelming opinion of the American people that the jackass is the perfect symbol for the “Party of Jefferson” (an appellation that must have the venerable Thomas spinning in his grave).

Consider, if you will, the cast of characters – and their abhorrent behavior.

There is 83-year-old Bernie Sanders, wildly attacking Robert F. Kennedy for daring to question the highly profitable perambulations of the pharmaceutical industry. And then when Kennedy quite correctly points out that Mr. Sanders is, indeed, the largest recipient of Big Pharma contributions in the entire bought and paid for US Senate, the outraged octogenarian reaches shakily for his drool cup and angrily doubles down on defending his puppet masters.

Then there is the bug-eyed Adam Schiff – a man censured by the House of Representatives for lying about Russian collusion – bouncing up and down, waving his arms in the air and wildly vilifying Kash Patel over the meaning of the word “we.“ All in an attempt to blame Mr. Patel for the now thoroughly debunked January 6 black bag operation. When Patel attempts to defend himself by declaring “That is an abject lie, Mr. Schiff,” the censured prevaricating provocator angrily shouts him down and returns to his absurd obiter dictum of the word “we.”

And finally there is space cadet Sen. Mark Kelly, who decided to eviscerate Tulsi Gabbard for refusing to defend every malevolent malfeasance by the now thoroughly discredited CIA. He set out to provide cover for the out-of-control agency -- and then sat gape-mouthed as Gabbard revealed chapter and verse of the CIA’s Operation Timber Sycamore sponsorship of Al Queda in Syria. Among other things.

The list could go on. And on.

There is senile 75-year-old Ron Wyden, who clearly has decided to become the poster boy for skin peals. There is Mark Werner, who just as clearly took acting lessons before posing and posturing on the now-debunked panel. And, of course, there is Pocahontas, who became so hysterical after Robert Kennedy exposed her cozy relationship with Big Pharma that she transformed herself into the operational definition of “harridan.”

If the Democrat Party had hoped even remotely to use the confirmation hearings to attempt to redeem their reputation among the American people, they could not have failed more miserably. It is as if, looking at the recent presidential election results, they said, “Okay, we shot ourselves in the foot; now let’s put a bullet through our heads.”

As they droned on... and on... and on, shouting down, shutting up, savagely attacking and ridiculing their victims, they showed total disdain for the time-honored, traditional rules of proper American conduct. And, in so doing, they exposed themselves as out of touch, out of control, and out for the blood of the clearly sincere and patriotic nominees chosen by a president who had just buried the Democrat Party in a landslide.

Indeed, it is as if they set out to deliberately offend Americans of all ages who had already rejected them and their phantasmagoria part and parcel. In fact, their behavior in the hearings almost seemed to be an attempt not only to offend, but to attack, those who dared not toe the Democrat Party line and kowtow to its woke whims and wants.

The fact is, their confirmation hearing behavior almost seemed to be a bizarre declaration of intent to study the figures below – and then get even with those who dared defy Democrat dictates:

My friend Winky Dink and I finally found our way out of the woods not by walking faster, but by remembering that when we set out some hours earlier, the sun had been at our backs. So now, we had to fully face it and reverse direction.

If the Kennedy, Patel, Gabbard hearings are any indication, the leading lights of the Democrat Party have clearly not learned a like lesson.

And that is why, they are going to continue plunging their evanescing organ ever deeper into the dark abyss.

Because, in short, they are jackasses.
