Trust in National News Organizations Drops 50 Percent Among Republicans in Five Years

A Pew research poll has shown that media trust among Republicans has halved from the beginning of Trump’s rise to the presidency to his ouster from the White House under bizarre and dubious circumstances.

As of 2016, 70 percent of Republicans trusted national news organizations, a surprisingly high number. After Trump’s removal from office and the total media blackout of information about voter fraud, that number now stands at 35 percent.

Other findings in the poll showed that Democrats went from trusting the news media at 83 percent in 2016 to 78 percent in 2021. Independents dropped from 76 percent trust in the news media in 2016 to 58 percent currently.

Local news organizations have considerably more credibility among the public than their national counterparts. 66 percent of Republicans still trust the local news media, down from 79 percent in 2016. Independents’ trust in the local news media waned from 82 percent in 2016 to 75 percent in 2021. Democrats’ trust in the local news media remained steady, dropping only one point in the five-year span.
