Obama’s War On Veterans Has A Name: Operation Vigilant Eagle

Restore Our Vet’s Civil Liberties NOW!

President Obama and Janet Napolitano through DHS and the FBI have determined to keep a “vigilant eye” on our returning veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq. They treat them as if each one were suspects of domestic terrorism if they dare to speak out against the Obama Adminstration. It is reprehensible, ungrateful and irreverent and It Must Stop.

Operation Vigilant Eagle profiles our veterans and gives legal cover for treating them as jihadists. One can’t help but wonder how honored our returning veterans really feel when they realize they are persons of interest to the FBI and DHS.

Back in 2009, DHS and the FBI launched a nationwide counterterrorism operation with the purported objective of targeting "militia/sovereign-citizen extremist groups." It has since come to light that the initiative, dubiously dubbed Operation Vigilant Eagle, actually targets combat veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan who are speaking out politically against our governments' policies.

In the words of Civil Rights lawyer John Whitehead of the Rutherford Institute,

"In the four years since the start of Operation Vigilant Eagle, the government has steadily ramped up its campaign to 'silence' dissidents, especially those with military backgrounds...Given the government’s increasing view of veterans as potential domestic terrorists, it makes one think twice about a new Michigan law that adds a veterans designation on Michigan driver's licenses and state IDs.”

According to a CBSNews.com report, two and a half million Americans have served in Iraq and Afghanistan; many of them for multiple tours. The VA has estimated that about 20 percent come home with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Oppositional-Defiance Disorder (ODD) and other mental illnesses— roughly 500,000 soldiers.

These statistics demand attention, and while some returning soldiers do require mental-health treatment, it does not justify the government’s classifying all two and a half million Iraq and Afghanistan vets as threats to their families and communities, and in need of observation by law enforcement. This is what Operation Eagle is about— Viewing all returning Vets as potentially violent and unstable.

Our Young Men and Women That Served This Country Deserve Better!

Encouraged to seek counseling after enduring the high-stress combat environments of Iraq and Afghanistan, veterans are being lured into a trap and labeled mentally ill, emotionally unstable and unpredictable.  They then are put under the prying eye of the DHS and treated as potential criminals, leading to preemptive government action to restrict their rights and detain them without Bill of Rights protections or constitutional due process.

Our returning combat soldiers are being stereotyped, assumed to all have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Oppositional-Defiance Disorder (ODD). This in turn gives the government a pretext to systematically strip them of their rights and lock them away in a manner beginning to look increasingly like the way the old Soviet Union used to “disappear” outspoken, so-called “enemies of the state.”

Who could blame our returning vets for feeling “disgruntled and disillusioned” when constantly faced with a predator government seeking the slightest excuse to pounce?

The egregious case of Brandon Raub is a prime demonstration of how Obama handles dissidents.

Former marine Brandon J. Raub was kidnapped, assaulted, unlawfully detained and committed to a psychiatric ward FOR POSTING TO FACEBOOK in a manner critical of the government. Mr. Raub was not charged with any crime or wrongdoing, nor had he previously been diagnosed with a mental illness. The initial (bogus) pretexts for detaining him—assault and resisting arrest—were never formally brought, yet he was held in custody, committed to a psychiatric hospital, and subjected to mental competency evaluations. When the case finally reached a judge who was unwilling to participate in his illegal detainment, Raub was released; the judge stating: “The [government’s] petition is so devoid of any factual allegations that it could not be reasonably expected to give rise to a case or controversy.”

John Whitehead writes:

"This is all part of a larger trend in American governance whereby dissent is criminalized and pathologized, and dissenters are censored, silenced or declared unfit for society. Governmental authorities at all levels have made it abundantly clear that they want no one questioning their authority."

A soldier in the United States Military pledges to support and defend the Constitution against ALL enemies foreign and domestic. It is ironic and tragic that the Obama administration has become the biggest threat to the U.S. Constitution by targeting former members of the U.S Armed Forces for exercising their constitutional rights.

In another attempt to take away the civil liberties of returning veterans, the VA has notified some returning vets that they may be submitted to competency evaluations, and pending the results, “A determination of incompetency will prohibit you from purchasing, possessing, receiving, or transporting a firearm or ammunition.”

The paranoia of the U.S. Government and the Obama Administration is the real mental illness, a kind of bureaucratic pathology that finds potential domestic terrorists beneath every military uniform.

For more than ten years now our military people have been fighting in far-off lands with the belief they were defending the US Constitution. It is unconscionable for the US government now to attack them as a threat to the very constitution they put themselves in harm’s way to protect.
Help Us Demand Justice For The Countless Veterans Who
Are Under Attack At Home By The Obama Administration.

Tell Congress “Stop The Abuse of Operation Vigilant Eagle.”
