A White House meeting on Tuesday between President Trump and Republican congressional leaders was abruptly cancelled.
Sens. John Thune (R-S.D.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) said the 4 p.m. meeting had been called off but they were not sure why. The White House has yet to comment on the cancellation.
A White House official said earlier Tuesday that Trump and GOP lawmakers planned to discuss “immigration priorities.”
The conversation was expected to center on a sweeping proposal drafted by White House adviser Jared Kushner on closing so-called “loopholes” in asylum laws and overhauling the legal immigration system.
The meeting was scheduled hours before the House was set to vote on a resolution condemning Trump's remarks targeting a group of minority congresswomen.
